Brockenchack Eden Valley Wines

As no strangers to the wine industry, in 2004 Trevor & Marilyn Harch jumped at the opportunity to embrace their passion for wine and purchased an established vineyard in Eden Valley (nestled nicely between Henschke and Yalumba). The property, a working vineyard for over a century, was then producing grapes that went into Yalumba’s premium reds.

Trevor, with good friend and talented winemaker Shawn Kalleske (of Laughing Jack Wines), both knew they were onto a good thing and began hand-crafting boutique wines from what are some of the oldest Riesling vines in Australia, planted in 1896 and the established 87 year old Shiraz vines. The vineyard is named after their four grandchildren, Bronte, Mackenzie, Charli and Jack…the life and soul of this special place.

Di Giorgio

The DiGiorgio family farm covers a vast area and includes cattle, sheep and wool production together with interests in horticultural produce as well as viticulture.

In 1989 the family set aside four hectares on their Lucindale farm for vines. After much consideration of microclimate, average sunlight hours, water supply and soil testing, the first two hectares of Pinot Noir and two hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon were planted. As a result of its initial success, the family gradually developed the vineyard to its 126 hectares with the final planting in 1998. The varieties planted now encompass Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

In 1998, the family decided it was time to produce their own bottled wines from the family's vineyards and to market these wines throughout the world. Initially, the wines were produced at a nearby winery by a contract winemaker. Then in March 2002, though a stroke of fortune, the family became proud owners of the second oldest winery in the world famous Coonawarra district.

Jarvis Estate

The Jarvis Estate vineyard is located on Wirring Road in the sub-region of Bramley. Conveniently located halfway between the Townships of Margaret River and Cowaramup, Jarvis Estate truly is in the heart of the Margaret River wine region.

The estate is also just 8 kilometres inland from the Indian Ocean. It is this close proximity to the ocean and its two seasonal currents that stabilise the temperatures, creating a warm climate with cool nights, slowing ripening period. The Mediterranean climate with cool winters and a slow ripening season enhances the fruit driven flavours in all our wines. In addition to great weather conditions, Jarvis Estate is situated on some good dirt. The topsoils on the property are mungnite loams with clay on gravel sub soils.

It is said that great wine is made in the vineyard and it is this philosophy that Matt & Jackie Jarvis strongly adhere to when producing their award winning Margaret River wines.

Mark's Vineyard

The Hill Smith name is synonymous with Australian winemaking, dating back to 1849 when Samuel Smith first planted vines at Yalumba in the Barossa Valley. Today, Mark's Vineyard in Woodside represents seven generations of continuous family winemaking. As one of Australia's leading Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc producers, Matthew Hill Smith's expertise becomes supremely evident after the first sip of his lovingly produced vintages.

Most recently, he released his own oakless Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc: two exciting and individual wines made using fruit grown in the high-altitude cool climate of his 23-year-old vines in the Adelaide Hills.

'It's all about the vineyard and how you manage it," he explains. 'Mine has a good mixture of the best international clones and vine age, and is one hundred per cent hand-picked and hand-pruned. As a result, the grapes are not bruised or damaged in the picking process and every grape experiences a long, slow, cool ripening period to create intense and high-quality flavours. I am proud to say I work on a farm – not in a factory."
